This past Sunday we celebrated Jamahl turning 15. I thought the girls turning 12 was hard to comprehend but this birthday was a whole different level. The night before, we went birthday shopping at the mall for the perfect pair of tennis shoes...it took awhile but we found them and he was very very happy! We had a laid back day on Sunday celebrating everything Jamahl.
We started the morning with Paul's pancakes, and then my family gathered at my parents to have the birthday boys chosen lunch of chili with pasta, chicken wings, and doughnuts for dessert. We finished the day at friends house to watch the Patriots play football....thank goodness they won, and had Chinese for dinner. At 15, Jamahl's life revolves around school, sports, and food as you can see from the way we celebrated.
Jamahl is everything a mom could ask for from her first born. He is hard working, kind, witty, smart, thoughtful, passionate, a rule follower, humble, looks out for the underdog, and makes great decisions. He also drives us crazy with his sports trivia and loud random noises, picks on his sisters relentlessly at times, loves to be on his phone or computer, loves junk food, and leaves his clean laundry all over his bedroom floor....least you think he is perfect!!! Too many times these days, I find myself with a lump in my throat as I look at him becoming a young adult, busy trying to figure out where he fits into this crazy world. I am torn between tears remembering my little boy and pure excitement to see what the next years bring. Whatever may come his way, I pray he tackles it with honor and his head held high...and a lot of laughter mixed in. I thank God every day for blessing Paul and I with Jamahl and loved celebrating 15 years with him!
