It has been a busy beginning to the week around our house. Monday afternoon, after a quiet lunch with my parents, I got a phone call that registered as the kids school on my caller ID. My rate started racing and my mind went immediately to Keyan, whose labs have not been stable. But, even though it was Keyan’s nurse on the other end of the phone, she was calling about Sidney.
Sidney had fallen off the monkey bars three hours before and her wrist and arm will still swollen despite the nurse icing it and keeping it elevated. She thought that I better come and take a look. I rearranged my afternoon, asked my Mom and Dad to grab stuff for dinner, called Paul to switch cars so that he could pick the kids up, and off I went racing to the school. When I got to the school and looked at her arm, I knew right away that we were indeed headed to Urgent Care. There was a large white bump in the middle of her wrist…but she was not complaining at all. As we were walking out, she did finally tell me that it hurt. It didn’t take long for the doctor at the Urgent Care to tell us that it was broke. They put a temporary cast on, gave us an appointment with the orthopedic doctor, some pain meds, and sent us on our way!
In the end, she chose a hot pink cast and is so excited to get everyone to sign it. She has a break in the one bone in her arm and another small hairline fracture further up. She has been such a trooper. She is not one to draw attention to herself so we have to stay really in tune to her actions to know how much it hurts. She is having problems with not wanting to eat due to pain but as the days go on, it should be getting better. She is so sweet and doesn’t want to cause anyone any problems so we have to make sure to keep checking on her. Every now and then, she will ask for ice or a drink but otherwise, she just lays around worrying about how she is going to get dressed, or write, or pull the toilet paper off the roll! It is amazing what things change when you can’t use your dominant hand! Oh our Ne-Ne bear…she never stops worrying! We sure do love our girl!
